Orchestra Today

The following multi-media path shows firstly  the musical traditions of Central Asia through a brief history of musical instruments; follows a specific exam of their peculiar features and use. Traditional musical instruments look sometimes very simply made, sometimes highly refined: anyway they seem to be representative of one of the main aspects of Silk Road cultures since ancient ages; their evolution played a significant role in the anthropologic and cultural history .

Research on musical instruments allows to gather objective historical elements about identities of nomadic and half - nomadic peoples, concerning material and creative expressions of their culture. It is well known that some ancient Central Asian cultures gave to musical instruments the noble task of capturing the sound of universe (shamanism) using them as a medium between humans and gods  and sometimes as a means of recovery. Their main instrument, such as kobuz, survived until nowadays.
