strumento musicaleInstrument of Persian origins. Also called Daera, da’ira, dayereh, the doira is a circular frame drum, equipped of rings and metal rattles (generally 5, as according to some arabian symbology its number related to the circle). It has a wooden frame, while the membrane is made of parchement. Its dimensions are about 45-50 cm in diameter and 5-7 cm in depth. The doira is played hitting the drumskin with the right hand’s fingers, while the left hand is needed to hold the drum. There’s another technique which consist in throwing up the doira to clang the rings.
