The wide landscape of traditional dance in Central Asia, art dance and folk dance, reveals its strong liaison with community life.That's the reason why so many differences can be found between Bukhara and Samarkand , Khorezm and Ferghana style. Anyway different styles express the common vocation to intend dance as an absolute performance, utilyzing individual and choral singing , descriptive acting and pantomime.In mythological dances, inspired to Zoroastian cults, figures and performances express a more symbolic and suggestive character.

TAMARA  KHANUM

The dancer Tamara Khanum is now worthwhile to be mentioned, as she expressed a very charismatic role in Central-Asia dances tradition. Starting form the first decades, the dancer's natural talent crosses all over the 20th century.

Tamara Khanum loved and practiced any kind of traditional dance from Central Asian lands, brought them into European countries too, and gave a first theoretical plan of choreographies and styles.

In the richness and variety of dances she felt the soul of minorities and rendered their strength. She was a charming and free women between Muslim and Soviet era. She looks now like a true icon of dance and identity creating along the Silk Road.
